Are you getting ready to move? No one likes to talk about moving, and many people will delay their responsibilities because they just don’t want to start packing. It can be hard to get rolling with the moving process, so you have to be aware of everything that you can do to make the process easier on yourself. So, without further ado, here are 3 great tips that can help you the next time you have to move homes or offices.
1. Have easy access to all of the essentials. You may not have time to unpack when you first arrive at your new destination, or you may not remember where you put things. There are a number of ways for you to make sure that you have access to the things that you will need the first couples of days in your new home. For example, you can pack an overnight bag with a couple of sets of clothes, toiletries, and other items that you won’t want to dig out of your boxes at midnight. If you know that you’ll need certain things (bed sheets, etc) right away, then you will want to pack those in easily distinguishable bins (clear bins work the best). Then, you can grab those boxes and set up the essentials without having to dig through a dozen boxes.
2. Don’t waste products when you don’t have to! Here at Junk Jitsu, we focus on the environment. You can even do that while you’re moving! Instead of wasting money and resources on bubble wrap and other items that will keep your kitchen items, knick-knacks, and glassware safe – use your clothes! You can stick socks in your glasses; you can throw your pans into jackets and hoodies, and do much more. You can also use other soft items, like pillows and blankets, to keep some of those objects safe. If you’re nervous about some of your items (family heirlooms and other precious items), keep those with you in a special box that you put in your trunk. Then, you can be sure that they’re safe.
3. Get creative with your packing devices. Don’t waste a ton of money by buying new bins and other items to move with. Instead, just go to your local beer store, grocery store, or fast food restaurant. They always have a number of cardboard boxes that you can use in order to pack items. For example, beer stores will have a number of different boxes that have special handles; these are great if you’re looking to pack books. Fast food boxes (especially ones that hold French fries) are just the right size for picture frames and dishes, and they’re really sturdy as well. No matter who you get them from, the benefit is twofold. You’re not spending extra money, and you’re helping them to be green by using their cardboard boxes for another purpose!
